MGMT myspace page. Another example of the 'new ugly' aesthetic. New ugly does not ask for acceptance. It aims to provoke a reaction by rejecting the 'rules' of design and their consequences (homogenous, safe, predictable design). Its characterized by garish colors and clashing concepts - like a clown being sick or the victim of a virulent computer virus. It's not anti-design. It reaches UP, for the light in a way most of post-modernity doesn't, can't. New Ugly "can easily be dimissed as just a few kids messing about, but, as a recent piece on New Rave in The Sunday Times Style magazine noted, that’s pretty much how all trends start."
